In recent years, there has been a lot of discussion concerning the social responsibility norm. The number of businesses that have achieved the ISO 26000 certification is still very small. In terms of competition, quality and cost have always been at the forefront. However, acting ethically and having social duties have become essential parts of competition in recent years. Furthermore, non-governmental organizations have grown stronger and have been successful in establishing the concept of social responsibility in enterprises.

Based on the Social Responsibility standard, the International Standards Organization (ISO) published the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Management System standard in 2010. (SA 8000 standard). This norm applies not only to private-sector businesses, but also to government agencies. This system can be established and implemented by businesses of all sizes, including non-governmental organizations.
